Our Vibe Code (aka Code of Conduct)

Afrique Like Me’s tagline is “Come As You Are. No Judgment”.

We’re passionate about building a thriving, welcoming, inclusive, harassment-free space and experience for everyone who walks through our doors, regardless of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, socioeconomic status, body size, ethnicity, nationality, age, religion (or lack thereof), or other identity markers.

Afrique Like Me brings together an enthusiastic pack of people who love African electronic dance music. That’s why it's important to us that everyone who takes part is aware of our expectations of them and our culture, so we've put together this Vibe Code (AKA Code of Conduct) as a reminder of the unwritten rules of generally being a good, kind and supportive human being.

Our Vibe Code exists because of our passion for creating a healthy community, and we don’t tolerate harassment in any form.

Harassment includes (but is not limited to) verbal comments that reinforce social structures of domination related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion (or lack thereof), deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing and unwelcome photography or recording, sustained disruption,, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. People asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

Consent is a really big part of any good event and community experience, so always ask for it. Unwelcome sexual language also isn’t a vibe, so don’t do it. It’s just not appropriate

If you’re ever uncomfortable at one of our events, or see something concerning that needs attention, look for one of the resident DJs or an Afrique Like Me Minister of Vibration (aka Vibe Patrol) and let them know what’s going on. Put plainly, if you’re being harassed, made to feel uncomfortable, notice that someone else is being harassed or looks uncomfortable, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the organizing team immediately or speak to the Minister of Vibration  or venue staff.

If a person engages in harassing behaviour at one of our events, the organizers, Minister of Vibration, and venue staff may take any action they deem appropriate.

To ensure we can continue building a healthy community, people who violate the Vibe Code may be asked to leave, barred from attending future events, reported to law enforcement or removed from online communities and communications.
